Founded by the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our hospital began as a divine service dedicated to leprosy patients, following Saint Francis of Assisi who kissed the hands of the afflicted with unconditional love.

Our Milestones

1960

The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary were ordained in Eraiyur, beginning their mission of serving the poor in the path of Jesus Christ.

1967-68

3 acres of land purchased to construct a new hospital building, laying the foundation for Assisi Hospital's physical presence.

Sister Brigitte Marie, the first doctor of the Euclidean Congregation, arrived and dedicated 15 years of service to the hospital.

Laboratory with Bio Chemistry Machine established, hospital recognized by Government of India, and new building opened.

After 11 years of dedicated leprosy service, complete elimination achieved. Maternity Department established.

Assisi Hospital officially registered under the Immaculate Heart of Mary Society.

Free treatment provided to 400 people celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Immaculate Congregation.

Our Divine Purpose

The work of caring for the welfare of leprosy patients was initiated with the special intention of being a divine service. Saint Francis of Assisi visited lepers, shared with them, and kissed their hands warmly.
