Assisi Hospital is located at Eraiyur in Kallakurichi District in Tamil Nadu, South India. It is a mission hospital under the Arch-Diocese of Pondicherry-Cuddalore, run by Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pondicherry.
The people of this village were mostly affected by Leprosy due to limited medical facilities. In response to this need, Bishop Rev. Mgr. Ambrose approached Rev. Mother Deodat Mary, the Superior General of FIHM Congregation. The Superior General sent Sr. Pia Mary (specially trained for Leprosy care) and Sr. Stephany (the Assistant) to begin this sacred mission.
The Sisters trusted in divine providence and started their ministry in a small house of the Parish on December 1, 1960. Today, Assisi Hospital provides services to 40 villages in and around Eraiyur.
